Borna Barisic Rangers New Contract Efforts Amid Leeds United Transfer Bid And Euro Suitors

Barisic has several clubs interested from around Europe this month

Rangers are looking to offer Borna Barisic a new contract to ward off January transfer suitors.

The Croatian, 31, sees his current deal expire in the summer following six years at Ibrox. There are numerous clubs interested in potentially moving for the left-back with approaches already made from Ligue 1, La Liga and Serie A. Barisic, now into his final six months, is free to speak to these clubs this month with a view to a pre-contract signing but Football Scotland understands Gers have made their move to keep the defender under Philippe Clement.

The Light Blues are on the lookout this transfer window for a left-sided defender with Barisic’s deputy, Ridvan Yilmaz, on the way out the door to Hellas Verona in a move worth around £3million.

But Football Scotland understands they do not want to lose Barisic and have reached out this week to show their desire to keep hold of the player who joined in 2018 from Osijek.

We can reveal that Leeds United are hopeful of taking Barisic down south to the Championship this month. No decision has yet been made as, at 31, it is likely to be his final career move should he choose to leave Ibrox.
