West Ham United Considering January Transfer Swoop For Feyenoord Striker Santiago Gimenez

West Ham have set their sights on prolific Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, according to The Times.

Paul Joyce shared the update on the publication’s online edition on Thursday (11 January), with the Mexican said to be valued at £30million.

If that valuation does not put United off, it is suggested that there could be one big obstacle standing in United’West Ham

Feyenoord supposedly do not want to sell any players in the January window, preferring instead to wait until the summer.

Gimenez, who has 20 goals in 21 appearances this season, is also said to be on the radar of a number of other European sides.

Good recent record

A striker who can bang in 15-plus goals a season was always likely to be on West Ham’s radar, even before all these recent lay-offs.

Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta are sidelined through injury, while Mohammed Kudus is away on Africa Cup of Nations duty.

Danny Ings is effectively David Moyes’s only recognised out-and-out striker, and he is hardly an option for the long term.

A number of players have been linked with a move to London Stadium – including Gimenez in the past – and that is not at all surprisiWest Ham

Gimenez seems to tick plenty of boxes, not least with his goalscoring record. For all the talk of that being in the Dutch league, just look at Kudus.

In fact, both Kudus and fellow summer recruit Edson Alvarez have been excellent, so this is a ready-made formula for Tim Steidten to follow.

Quite whether West Ham have £30m to splash right now is another question entirely, but the interest alone is an exciting development.

In other West Ham news, the Irons have made a decision on a young player with a statement made on the club’s website.
