Rangers held talks regarding a £2.5 million deal, and the forgotten man has not started a game since

Jonathan Panzo continues to struggle after Rangers missed out on a summer deal for the Nottingham Forest man with reports suggesting that his loan spell at Cardiff City could be cut short.

There was no shortage of speculation when the team news emerged last weekend, Jonathan Panzo conspicuous by his absence from the Cardiff City squad for their 4-0 FA Cup third round hammering at Sheffield Wednesday.

According to the Bluebirds’ assistant coach, the defender’s absence due to ‘an agreement’ with his parent club, Nottingham Forest seemingly keen to avoid a situation in which the 23-year-old finds himself cup tied ahead of a potential change of scenery during the January window (BBC Sport).

And a change of scenery – not to mention a change of clubs – looks increasingly likely.

Panzo, who reportedly held talks regarding a £2.5 million move to Rangers last summer, has featured only five times since joining Cardiff instead. The one-time Chelsea youngster hasn’t even started a single Championship game.

It should come as no surprise, then, to hear that his time in South Wales could be cut short, Daily Mirror reporter Darren Witcoop writing on X that Panzo may be set to depart alongside Arsenal-owned goalkeeper Alex Runarsson and the one-time Rangers linked striker Ike Ugbo.

“(A possible exit for Panzo) can happen,” Cardiff boss Erol Bulut told Wales Online in December. “We have options. If this happens, we will have a look at another (defender).”
