Novak Djokovic makes big statement of intent ahead of impending return from injury at Qatar

Novak Djokovic has announced his imminent return to competitive tennis at the Qatar Open in Doha, scheduled from February 17 to 22, 2025. This decision comes after a hamstring injury forced him to retire during the Australian Open semi-final against Alexander Zverev last month. Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, has been on a quest for his 100th ATP singles title since clinching his 99th at the Paris Olympics in August 2024.

In a recent interview, the 37-year-old Serbian provided an encouraging update on his recovery. “There is no more rupture in the muscle; the injury is almost 100% healed,” Djokovic stated. “I have the green light from the medical team to train and prepare. The tournament in Doha is scheduled for a week now, so I am sticking to the schedule.”

Djokovic’s participation in the Qatar Open marks his return to the tournament after a six-year hiatus, having last competed there in 2019. He previously secured back-to-back titles in Doha in 2016 and 2017.

Reflecting on his recent injuries, Djokovic acknowledged the challenges that come with age. “I’ve had a few more injuries lately than I did in the first 15 years of my career. That probably comes with age, but my body still … . The flame and desire for achievement and … victories still burns in me.”

Achieving his 100th ATP singles title would place Djokovic among an elite group, with only Jimmy Connors (109) … Roger Federer (103) having surpassed this milestone in the professional era. Djokovic expressed his determination, stating, “I hope that the 100th … . I’ve been chasing it for a long … it will come when it’s supposed … .”

As Djokovic prepares for his return, the tennis world eagerly anticipates his performance in Doha, where he aims to make history by securing his landmark 100th

title.
