Rangers keeping it in the family

Rangers, Bournemouth and Norwich City are all interested in Motherwell youngster Max Willoughby. The teenage defender has progressed through the ranks at Fir Park and the Steelmen are keen to keep him.

Rangers are also keen on the youngster, who is the grandson of the former player Alex Willoughby. The Light Blues aren’t Willloughby’s only admirers as English Premier League side Bournemouth have also been scouting him while Championship side Norwich City are also keeping close tabs.

Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell has shown he is not afraid to give youth a chance, with the likes of Lennon Miller and Luca Ross both being given their chance this season. The Lanarkshire outfit will hope that pathway to the first-team will convince him to remain where he is.

Carlisle plan Spiders raid

Carlisle United want to land Queen’s Park’s Jack Thomson. The English League One side want to try and land the midfielder this month.

It will be one of the first big decisions new boss Callum Davidson will need to make. They have to decide whether to cash in now or keep Thomson for the second half of the season.

The 24-year-old is out of contract in the summer and could move cross-border for nothing then. Thomson moved across the city to the Spiders after he left Rangers in 2022.

Queen’s Park are also set to finalise a move that will see their keeper Callan McKenna make a six figure move to Manchester United. The move for the teenage keeper could go beyond seven figures with future add ons.

Dee and County want a slice of Mellon

Ross County and Dundee are amongst a string of clubs who are interested in a January loan for Burnley’s Michael Mellon. Staggies boss Derek Adams previously worked with the Scotland under-21 striker in the first half of the season at Morecambe.

The 20-year-old has just been recalled by the Clarets after his 15 goal haul at Morecambe. County is keen to work with him again in Scotland and would love to take him to the Highlands for the rest of the season. Dundee will also come into the thinking as Burnley look to strengthen links with the Dark Blues, via their American owners.

Mellon- who is the son of former Dundee United boss and current Oldham manager Micky – is set to be rewarded with a new deal with the Premier League side before he is sent back out on loan. There are more than 20 teams on both sides of the border who are keen to land Mellon.

Burnley have already sent Dara Costelloe on loan to Dens Park for the rest of the season. Costelloe spent the first half of the campaign at St Johnstone. Dundee did have Marcel Lewis on-loan but he struggled to make an impact with Tony Docherty’s high-flying side.

The Dens Park side are actively looking to add to their squad. They have also been linked with Curtis Main who is returning from India. Docherty has previously worked with him at Aberdeen. A left-back is a priority after Liverpool recalled Owen Beck from his loan last week.

Dundalk must walk the Walk

Dundalk will need to up the ante if they want to land Kelty Hearts star Jamie Walker. The Irish League side have been in discussions with the Scottish League One side.

The two clubs are currently apart in their valuations. Dundalk have made an initial offer but that will need to be improved. They want to offer the 22-year-old the chance to turn full-time. Walker moved to Kelty from Caledonian Braves in the summer.
