Carlos Alcaraz’s coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, has outlined plans to enhance the young Spaniard’s game ahead of the 2025 season, focusing on increasing the aggressiveness of his forehand to make it more decisive in critical moments.
Ferrero, a former World No. 1 and French Open champion, has been instrumental in Alcaraz’s rapid ascent in professional tennis. Under his guidance, Alcaraz has secured multiple Grand Slam titles and reached the pinnacle of the ATP rankings. Despite these achievements, Ferrero believes there is room for improvement, particularly in making Alcaraz’s forehand more lethal during pivotal points in matches.
“We are trying to tweak a bit on the serve, to give it more rhythm, make it smoother and more relaxed,” Ferrero stated. “Then, we will fine-tune small details, like the forehand; we want it to be more killer at certain moments. We need to enhance his DNA and work on his weaknesses.”
This strategic adjustment comes as part of a broader effort to refine Alcaraz’s game, ensuring he remains competitive at the highest levels. Ferrero emphasized the importance of continuous evolution, aiming for Alcaraz to excel in all aspects of the game. “We seek continuous evolution. What does this mean? We aim for a player who is a ’10’ in practically everything. Carlos has very high numbers in some aspects and lower ones in others. We need to enhance his strengths and improve his weaknesses.”
Alcaraz’s 2024 season was marked by significant successes, including victories at the French Open and Wimbledon. However, early exits in tournaments like the US Open highlighted areas needing improvement. Ferrero defended Alcaraz against any criticism, describing the year as “spectacular” but acknowledged the necessity for ongoing development. “Winning a Grand Slam is very, very challenging, so winning two makes for a magnificent season, although there are always areas to improve,” he noted.
As the new season approaches, Alcaraz is set to begin his campaign at the Australian Open, aiming to complete a Career Grand Slam. With Ferrero’s guidance and the planned enhancements to his game, particularly in making his forehand more decisive, Alcaraz is poised to continue his ascent in the tennis world.
