Russell Martin was relieved of his duties with Southampton rock bottom of the Premier League following their thrashing to Tottenham on Sunday night
Southampton have sacked head coach Russell Martin following their 5-0 thrashing at home to Tottenham on Sunday night.
Saints were already rock bottom going into the home game against Spurs, having picked up just five points from their opening 15 Premier League matches.
But they were torn apart by Ange Postecoglou’s side on another humbling night at St Mary’s. It took Spurs just 40 seconds to open the scoring through James Maddison, and were 3-0 down before the 15-minute mark after goals from Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski.
And it was made even worse before half time as Pape Matar Sarr and Maddison found the net to leave the hosts five down at the break.
