Jannik Sinner wrapped up his incredible season by leading Italy to victory at the 2024 Davis Cup. After almost 25 years of drought, Italy has emerged as the powerhouse in the racquet sport, clinching its second consecutive title after beating the Netherlands 2-0 in the final. They’re now the first nation to win back-to-back Davis Cups since the Czech Republic (2012, 2013). Jannik Sinner’s role in this incredible rise is truly quite exceptional. However, although his 2024 season was nearly perfect on the court, he does head into the new year with a lot of concerns about surrounding multiple issues off the court. Sinner recently looked back at his “heartbroken” year, and here’s what he had to say.
Apart from his recent heroics at the Davis Cup, the world number one has won 8 titles this season, including 2 Grand Slam triumphs! Shortly after his win at the Davis Cup, Jannik Sinner said, “Returning as defending champions and managing to lift the trophy again is an unbelievable feeling for all of us. This win gives us a massive confidence boost as we head into the preseason.” However, amid all these joys and celebrations, Sinner looked a bit worried and sad when he tried to take a look back at the 2024 season.
Off-the-court, he has weathered quite a few storms this year. First was the doping saga, and then came the rumors of a possible breakup with his girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya. Recalling these tough times in 2024, Jannik Sinner added, “The most important part is that people around me & know me as a human being trust me. That’s also the reason I kept playing the level I had. I had some ups & downs, I was emotionally a bit down, a bit heartbroken. But sometimes life gives u difficulties & you just have to stand for it.“
What had happened between Jannik Sinner and Anna Kalinskaya, though? Well, this thing came into the limelight a few days ago when Jannik Sinner refused to dwell too much on Kalinskaya when asked if he had changed during their relationship. Sinner said, “Having a girlfriend is something that either makes you feel good or bad. I want it to be something that feels very natural, that enters my life normally. I can’t afford to change as a player or a person. This hasn’t happened, which is why it works.“
After that, we saw both of them unfollowing each other on IG. Should it emerge that these two have brought an end to their relationship, then they would be the second tennis ‘power couple‘ to do so in 2024! Previously, Anastasia Potapova confirmed her divorce from Alexander Shevchenko. Although another tennis couple, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa, also briefly split with each other this spring, they reunited shortly after that. Fans are very curious to know about what’s happening between Sinner and Kalinskaya, so here are some other developments that we’ve seen in the last few days.
