Former Real Madrid star Marcelo has this weekend seen his contract with Brazilian giants Fluminense terminated.
As much comes after the defender was involved in a dramatic exchange with head coach Mano Menezes.
Fluminense were back in action in the early hours of Sunday, in a high-profile Brasileiro meeting with fellow heavyweights Grêmio.
Marcelo was for his part forced to make do with a spot on the bench from the off at Maracanã, before being called to take to the pitch in the game’s dying moments.
From here, however, a bizarre scene unfolded.
After the 36-year-old seemingly rejected the instructions of manager Menezes, the latter pushed Marcelo back towards the bench, before cancelling his introduction.
Footage of the moment in question can be seen below:

And, as alluded to above, the fallout has since been as ruthless as it has swift.
As confirmed in a statement across Fluminense’s social media channels:
‘Fluminense FC and Marcelo Vieira announce the termination of the contract by mutual agreement between the parties.’
