Manchester United official club Statement on Erik ten Hag

Manchester United has officially confirmed the departure of Erik ten Hag as their manager following a disappointing start to the 2024/25 season. United’s recent 2-1 defeat to West Ham has left the club in a precarious 14th place in the Premier League, with just three wins from their opening nine games. Additionally, underwhelming performances in the Europa League compounded pressure on the Dutchman’s position, leading to the club’s decision to part ways.

Hired in April 2022, Ten Hag had an immediate impact, guiding United to the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. However, his tenure faced difficulties, including a finish outside the top four last season, and this year’s slow start eroded confidence among the club’s hierarchy. United’s official statement expressed appreciation for Ten Hag’s contributions, especially the domestic trophies, but acknowledged the need for a “new direction” amid ongoing challenges.

The club has appointed former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy as interim head coach. Van Nistelrooy, who recently returned to the club as an assistant, brings managerial experience from PSV Eindhoven, where he helped the team to a Dutch Cup victory. His leadership is expected to be a stabilizing force while United seeks a permanent manager.

This decision reflects a critical juncture for United, as they aim to reclaim competitive form. Van Nistelrooy will work closely with the current coaching team to guide the squad, and speculation about a long-term replacement is already underway, with various prominent names being mentioned. United fans and analysts will closely follow the club’s next steps as it seeks to restore stability and success at Old Traf
