Patrick Carrigan makes forceful call to replace Adam Reynolds as Brisbane Broncos captain.

Patrick Carrigan, star forward for the Brisbane Broncos, has addressed speculation surrounding the club’s captaincy, firmly stating that he does not intend to replace current captain Adam Reynolds. This comes after calls from Broncos legend Gorden Tallis and other voices in the NRL community for Carrigan to take over the captaincy following a challenging season for the team. The Broncos finished 12th in 2024, a significant drop from their grand final appearance the year before, which ultimately led to coach Kevin Walters’ dismissal.

Carrigan, a respected figure within the team, has regularly stepped in as captain when Reynolds was unavailable due to injury. Having won his second Paul Morgan Medal as the club’s Player of the Year, Carrigan was seen by many as a natural successor. However, the 26-year-old has thrown his full support behind Reynolds, praising his leadership qualities and insisting that Reynolds is the best man for the job.

“100 percent behind Reyno,” Carrigan told reporters. He emphasized that those who know Reynolds understand the significant impact he has on the team, both on and off the field.

Reynolds, who struggled with injuries throughout the 2024 season, has expressed his desire to remain captain in 2025, stating that he enjoys the role and is ready to continue leading the team if the club wishes. New coach Michael Maguire, who worked with Reynolds during their 2014 premiership win with the Rabbitohs, has also voiced his confidence in Reynolds’ leadership.

With Maguire at the helm, the Broncos are aiming for a turnaround in the 2025 season, and both Reynolds and Carrigan are expected to play pivotal roles in the club’s resurgence.
