Three Rangers Players Who Have Been Falling Under Philippe Clement Must Step Up

Rangers undertook a squad overhaul in the summer when Michael Beale replaced previously key players with a mix of expensive additions and free transfers, now Philippe Clement has to get a tune out of them.

Under the previous Gers boss, it’s safe to say that the new squad didn’t look like one capable of challenging for the title, winning silverware or topping a group in Europe, but here we are.

There are a lot of those Rangers players under long contracts though so, who needs to do more under Philippe Clement and prove that they want to stay at Ibrox?

The Rangers players Philippe Clement has to demand more from

The first one is obvious – Sam Lammers.

He has played 30 games at number 10 and has two goals and two assists, miles off being an acceptable return for a Rangers forward.

Against St Johnstone, it was his season in 90 minutes.

Promising attacks would break down when the ball went to him and he missed two great chances under no pressure, directly in front of goal.

No player has missed more big chances for Rangers this season and he should be on double figures by now, he could so easily have been the match winner against Aberdeen and levelled the scores against Celtic but fluffed his lines – Philippe Clement will be running out of patience.

Jose Cifuentes is up next.

Beale didn’t do him any favours by bigging him up so much but the Ecuador international has struggled to adapt.

Injuries saw him finally get a run of games and he was starting to look good alongside John Lundstram only to get sent off against Dundee and miss the next two games.

Nicolas Raskin with be pushing for his place back in the new year and Cifuentes is running out of time to show that he is the one that should be partnering Lundstram.

Todd Cantwell, controversial?

One goal and four assists in 22 games is not the sort of return that saw him become an instant fans’ favourite last season.

He can never be faulted for energy or effort and, as we saw in the league cup final, he was our most consistent threat, creating several chances that were butchered by teammates.

Rangers need more though and Philippe Clement will want his first-choice number 10 to start getting into more goalscoring positions.

The squad might be threadbare but the manager is squeezing everything he can out of it, a little bit more from the players mentioned and we will be doing even better.
