Austin Prock closing on two of John Force’s single-season Funny Car records

Austin Prock Closing in on John Force’s Single-Season Funny Car Records.

Austin Prock is having a standout year in the 2024 NHRA Funny Car series, inching closer to breaking some of the most enduring records set by his mentor and team boss, 16-time champion John Force. Prock, driving the Cornwell Tools Chevrolet Camaro SS for John Force Racing, has already achieved 11 No. 1 qualifiers out of the first 15 races this season. This puts him within reach of Force’s 1996 record of 13 No. 1 qualifiers in a single season, a benchmark long thought untouchable.

The 29-year-old has showcased remarkable consistency, reaching nine final rounds and securing six victories, including key wins at the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis and the Reading Nationals. His success is attributed to a combination of Prock’s skill and the technical expertise of his father, Jimmy Prock, who tunes the car, along with a top-tier crew. Prock has expressed excitement about the possibility of making history but remains focused on winning the overall championship rather than just chasing individual records.

Prock’s season has been dominant across the board, posting the fastest times in multiple events, with an impressive 38-9 win-loss record in head-to-head matches. His journey to potentially break Force’s record has not only garnered attention but also set high expectations as he moves into the final races of the year.

With just five races remaining, Prock’s pursuit of history continues, as he aims not only for record-breaking performances but also to claim his first Funny Car World Championship.
