Man City Confident Guardiola Will Remain, Dismissing England Links

Manchester City is optimistic that Pep Guardiola will not become the next England national team manager, despite increasing speculation. Following Gareth Southgate’s resignation after England’s Euro 2024 final loss to Spain, rumors have swirled about Guardiola potentially stepping into the role. The Football Association (FA) is currently searching for Southgate’s replacement, and Guardiola’s name has been floated as a possible candidate.

However, Guardiola has consistently denied any immediate interest in the England job, reaffirming his commitment to Manchester City. With one year remaining on his contract, the Spaniard has expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming season, highlighting his focus on his work at the Etihad Stadium. “I’m really excited for this season that’s coming…I’m completely focused,” Guardiola stated during the club’s pre-season tour.

Manchester City insiders echo this sentiment, confident that Guardiola will honor his contract, which runs through the end of the 2024-2025 season. City officials have expressed that they are determined to keep Guardiola at the club, given his exceptional success since arriving in 2016, which includes six Premier League titles

Though Guardiola has previously hinted at a desire to move into international management, sources close to the manager suggest he is not currently considering the England position. Meanwhile, other candidates like Eddie Howe, Graham Potter, and Lee Carsley have emerged as top options for the FA, as they weigh the possibility of an interim appointment

For now, Guardiola seems fully committed to his project at Manchester City, leaving the FA to explore other alternatives for Southgate’s successor.
