Nottingham Forest were actively trying to add quality over quantity during the summer transfer window and it’s fair to say the club did a pretty steady job.
The Reds added nine players to their ranks for the 2024/25 campaign, with two others – Marko Stamenic and David Carmo – joining Olympiacos on a season-long loan.
Forest attracted players from all over the world. A number of talented players were signed with no fewer than 14 players jetting off for international duty.
The window represented a clear shift in strategy from a Forest perspective. Quality players were added and the club didn’t spend sizeable sums on players who are way past their best.
One intriguing addition was that of Jota Silva. The player checked in from Vitoria and now some details of the deal have emerged from Portugal.

The Reds paid around £11 million for Silva during the summer and it was a transfer link that came out of the blue pretty quickly during the window.
Forest moved quickly to land the player who scored 15 goals and claimed seven assists during his time in Portugal last season.
Silva has already got himself off the mark for Forest too. He scored the equalising goal against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup – before the Reds lost out on penalties.
- Now, it’s come to light why Silva chose Forest – and it’s claimed that he’s earning a smaller salary than if he’d gone to one of the other clubs who wanted him this summer.
Club president Antonio Miguel Cardoso has told O Jogo: “It’s their career and in this house, we managed to reconcile a club that wanted Jota, a league that Jota wanted, salary figures for Jota that I even think are lower than the other proposals, but he had this objective.
“If the player dreams of going to the Premier League, if the player doesn’t want to go to emerging markets, as was the case with these offers, or to peripheral markets, we have to be sensitive to that.”
Silva can star at Forest this season
It’s fair to say that the player called ‘unreal’ after his first start against Newcastle will have to work hard for chances at Forest.
