Jeff Stelling has suggested Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Everton may feel aggrieved over Leicester City winning their appeal over an alleged breach of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability (PSR) rules. An independent panel found that the Foxes’ accounting period – after it was claimed the club had exceeded the maximum permitted £105million loss over a three-season period – ended on June 30, 2023, after the club were relegated from the top flight.
The Premier League said it was “surprised and disappointed” by the move to uphold the City’s appeal, with the Foxes arguing they had “simply sought to ensure that the rules are applied based on how they are actually written”. City, who won the Championship title last term, could have faced a points deduction had they been found to have breached the financial rules.
Stelling said: “Leicester City winning their appeal effectively over an alleged breach of profitability and sustainability rules. The decision by the appeal board all but ends the prospect of them being given a points deduction this season.
