£38m-rated Nottingham Forest-linked star, he will regret his choice forever

Nottingham Forest are seemingly close to ending their search for a new striker as the transfer window draws to a close.

The Reds look set to have favoured Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal as the new man, with the clubs locked in talks over a transfer fee.

It was claimed yesterday that Forest have agreed personal terms with Nketiah and the deal looks to be creeping closer.

One man who was on the radar was Feyenoord talisman Santiago Gimenez but that move doesn’t look to be on the cards anymore.

The Eredivisie outfit want £38 million for his signature and that might be out of Forest’s price range at the moment.

Pundit thinks Santiago Gimenez will regret Nottingham Forest decision

Some reports have claimed that Gimenez was the one who wasn’t sure about joining Forest this summer.

It’s believed that he’d like to play in the Champions League with Feyenoord and that might see him stay put for now.

The Premier League advances might not be on offer in the future, however, and Dutch pundit Johan Derksen believes he will regret the decision.

He told Vandaag Inside: “Gimenez, he’s making the mistake of his life.

“He thinks Nottingham Forest is an uninteresting club and wants to go to a bigger club, he is not good enough for that. It’s the chance of a lifetime to play football at the highest level in Europe with Nottingham Forest. He has to grab that with both hands.

“He will earn an insane salary there, five to ten times as much as at Feyenoord. But if he does well, Aston Villa could come in for Gimenez at som point.

“Aston Villa will never take him from Feyenoord on their own.”

Forest might return for Gimenez next summer

It sounds crazy but Forest could find themselves in a state of deja vu again next summer when it comes to signing a striker.

Chris Wood will be 33 in 12 months time and as he’s out of contract, it feels unlikely that he will be handed a new deal.

That could lead to Forest needing another striker, even if the club is successful in landing Nketiah during this transfer window.

Gimenez is unlikely to see his valuation increase as in one year he will have less time on his contract, so in theory, he might even be cheaper to sign.

It’s a shame that Forest look to be at an impasse when it comes to landing Gimenez but now as a fan base, it’s imperative that Nketiah gets the same level of support as the Mexican would have done.
