Leeds United agree terms for Rak-Sakyi signing, could play this weekend – Sky Sports
Jesurun Rak-Sakyi could be playing as soon as this weekend after Leeds United agreed loan terms with Crystal Palace, according to Sky Sports.
Lyall Thomas, Tim Thornton and Michael Bridge reported in the Transfer Centre blog on 8 August that while Sheffield United are “frontrunners” to sign Rak-Sakyi, the Whites and Hull remain in contention.
All three clubs have reportedly agreed loan terms with Crystal Palace to sign the 21-year-old winger, with the possibility of Rak-Sakyi lining up for one of them during the Championship’s opening weekend.
Previous reports claimed that Sheffield United had made a breakthrough ahead of Daniel Farke’s side for Rak-Sakyi [Alan Nixon, 7 August], but there remains work to be done on the transfer and the winger is yet to make his decision.
There’s certainly plenty of attention being put on Rak-Sakyi’s future despite the 21-year-old never having played at Championship level – with all three sides believing he could be vital in the promotion race.
The Peacocks in particular are a side who want, and arguably need, to add to their stocks out wide, following Crysencio Summerville’s departure to West Ham United for a reported £25million fee.
Replacing the Championship player of the year with someone yet to make an appearance in England’s second tier does represent a risk, but it’s one that United and their two Yorkshire rivals are willing to take.
A £7m offer has been lodged to Norwich City for Jonathan Rowe [John Percy, 5 August], but such an outlay – with profit and sustainability limits hanging over Elland Road – would also be a risk if Farke’s side fail to win promotion.
Rak-Sakyi, while still expected to cost any club who sign him a £1m-plus loan fee, represents a much safer option financially, but it remains to be seen if the Whites can beat Sheffield United to his signature.
In other Leeds news, the club are confident that civil disruption in the UK will not affect their opening-day clash with Portsmouth.
This would of course go one better than last term, but the onus is on the title favourites to secure a top-two spot with Allen arguing Farke’s squad is weaker than in 2023-24.
Allen reasoned: “Daniel Farke hopes to take Leeds up at the second attempt but, as things stand, his squad is weaker than when they lost the play-off final to Southampton.
“Championship player-of-the-year Crysencio Summerville has gone to West Ham, local wonderkid Archie Gray to Tottenham and Glen Kamara to Rennes.
