Tottenham’s Pursuit of Dominic Solanke Hits Roadblock as Bournemouth Demands €70m Release Clause

Tottenham Hotspur’s bid to sign Bournemouth’s top scorer Dominic Solanke has encountered a significant obstacle, as the Cherries have made it clear they will only part with their star striker if his €70m (£59.6m) release clause is met.

Solanke, who enjoyed a remarkable season in 2023/24 with 22 goal contributions in 38 Premier League games, has emerged as a prime target for Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou. However, Bournemouth’s insistence on triggering the release clause may prove problematic for the North London club.

Tottenham had been prepared to offer €50m (£42.6m) for Solanke’s services, but Bournemouth’s hardline stance means they will need to significantly increase their bid or explore alternative options.

One such option is Lille’s Canadian striker Jonathan David, who has also caught Tottenham’s attention. The 24-year-old enjoyed a prolific campaign last term, amassing 35 goal contributions in 47 games across all competitions.

Tottenham has already held talks with contacts close to David, and the player’s relatively lower valuation compared to Solanke may make him a more attractive proposition.

While Tottenham’s interest in Solanke remains, the club will need to weigh up whether meeting the €70m release clause is feasible. With other clubs, including Arsenal and Liverpool, also monitoring Solanke’s situation, Tottenham may need to act quickly to secure their target.

Bournemouth’s resolve to keep Solanke will be tested in the coming weeks, but for now, the Cherries are standing firm on their valuation. As the transfer window heats up, Tottenham’s pursuit of Solanke will be one to watch.
