A young Gambian could be offered his first professional contract if he impresses at Forest
Talented striker Lamin Sillah is currently training with Nottingham Forest with rivals also interested, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer specialist posted on X, formerly Twitter: “Gambian U20 talented striker Lamin Sillah, currently training with Nottingham Forest. Leicester City are also tracking him as he’s definitely one to watch with more PL clubs keen. Sillah, managed by Cherno Samba & Sascha Empacher.”
The young Gambian is currently playing for first-tier side Steve Biko FC and recently received an invitation from Forest. Other clubs in Europe – such as Austrian side Grazer AK – are thought to be monitoring the player’s progress and may be in contention to offer him his first professional contract. It is still unclear whether Forest will look to sign the player.
This season, the striker scored 14 goals and registered three assists in Gambia Football Federation League One. Nuno Espirito Santo has several striking options available with Emmanuel Dennis, Chris Wood, and Taiwo Awoniyi registered currently – although the latter is yet to feature so far in pre-season with Wood filling the void. Ui-jo Hwang is also under contract.
The New Zealander recently spoke to BBC Sounds’ ‘Shut up and show more football’ podcast about Forest’s squad and admitted the ‘turnover’ of players made it difficult, he said: “At the moment it’s more settled. You’ve got to keep the group together and you want to work with a number that you’re used to. The turnover of players makes it hard to get consistency, so if we can keep the core group and keep ticking over together, I think it will be a great step forward.”
Nottingham Forest’s pre-season preparations are well underway with fixtures against Chesterfield, Sunderland, Millwall, and Elche already completed with Villarreal set to travel to the City Ground on Friday evening before the Reds make the trip to Greece to face Olympiacos – also owned by Evangelos Marinakis – on Thursday 8 August ahead of their Premier League opener the following weekend against AFC Bournemouth.
