Newcastle United have held talks to sign French defender Jean-Clair Todibo during the summer transfer window.
After successfully offloading Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson last month, the Magpies stayed within the financial rules and can look to add players to their ranks.
Signing a new defender is a priority for the Magpies, and they are showing keen interest in signing the 24-year-old Nice defender.
According to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, the interest in the defender is driven by Newcastle’s new sporting director, Paul Mitchell.
West Ham have been heavily linked with a move for Todio this summer. They have had a bid rejected early in the window, but the Hammers have come again with a fresh offer.

The Hammers have offered a loan deal with the obligation of making the move permanent next summer, but Todibo wants to play for Juventus and he is waiting for the Old Lady to make a move for him.
Crook wrote on X: “Newcastle have held talks with Jean-Clair Todibo. Interest driven by new sporting director Paul Mitchell. Player unlikely to sign at this stage.”
Newcastle need to sign at least two new defenders this summer. Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles will miss a chunk of action next season through injuries and Eddie Howe needs more depth at the back.
The Magpies have already signed Llyod Kelly and John Ruddy on free transfer while Lewis Hall was signed permanently from Chelsea.
At the moment, it looks difficult for Newcastle to sign Todibo, even though he would have been a fantastic signing for them.
He has set his heart on joining Juventus, and unless Nice make an effort to change his mind, it looks difficult for either Newcastle or West Ham to sign him
