Crysencio Summerville is going to be on the watchlists of many top level sides following Leeds United’s play-off final loss to Southampton, with him potentially being available at a cut-size price.
Financial troubles at Elland Road have been well known for a while now, but these issues have been intensified by their failed attempt to win promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Paraag Marathe, the club’s chairman, has said that the club will need to make sacrifices in order to be able to comply with the EFL’s financial regulations.
Leeds’ fiscal records from the 2022/23 campaign showed that they still owed £190 million to other clubs from previous transfers, £73 million of which needs to be paid by the end of June, according to Kieran Maguire. The football finance expert added that they won’t be able to spend this summer until they sort these backdated payments out.
The Daily Mail reported that a failure to win the play-offs could lead to £100 million worth of player sales being needed by the Whites, and one of the main targets that other clubs would go after would be Summerville.
The Dutch winger won the Championship Player of the Season award, and has attracted the attention of clubs like Chelsea and Liverpool.
Mail Sport believes that the Whites would want in excess of £30 million for their 22-year-old star, and Football League World’s Leeds fan pundit, Kris Smith, has weighed in on the debate around his price tag.
Leeds’ fan view on Crysencio Summerville price
Smith believes that Leeds should look to try and get around £40 million for the winger, who scored 19 goals last season for United.
“You would hope that the power is still in our hands, as to what sort of price we can command for Summerville,” the Leeds fan said. “We would have already sold him for peanuts after the relegation if we didn’t have much power.
“He’s been the best player in the league this season, and, for me, the fee should reflect that. I don’t see him having trouble making the jump up to the top half of the Premier League, sort of like Jarrod Bowen.
“In terms of the actual fee, I think Leeds fans would be quite annoyed to see him go for any less than £30 million, but the optimist in me says that we should be commanding up to £40m for him. He is that good.
“Knowing Chelsea are in the running for him is quite encouraging, given their habit of overpaying for players; it could just start a bidding war.”
