£30m player has just admitted he wants to leave Nottingham Forest this summer

One player has now admitted that he would like to leave Nottingham Forest for good this summer.

A number of fringe players are expected to depart the City Ground shortly, with the Telegraph claiming that Wayne Hennessey, Cheikhou Kouyate, Harry Arter and Felipe are all heading for the exit door.

Now – however – another player also looks set to leave Nottingham Forest along with the aforementioned quartet…

Orel Mangala wants to leave Nottingham Forest

Any Nottingham Forest supporter who hoped to see Orel Mangala back at the City Ground this summer should now brace themselves for disappointment.

The Belgium international joined Lyon on loan in the January transfer window, and the French giants also agreed a purchase option with Nottingham Forest, which is believed to be worth up to £30m.

Now, Mangala has admitted that he would love Lyon to trigger this option to buy.

As quoted by Foot Mercato, the Belgian said: “I feel good here, even if a few physical problems prevented me from continuing. I am happy with my season and the confidence that was placed in me. The purchase option? I hope it will be lifted (activated), yes.”

Mangala has made seven appearances in Ligue 1 since moving to Lyon – scoring two goals – having racked up 20 Premier League outings in the first half of the 2023/24 campaign.

Would be good news from a financial aspect

While some might be saddened by this news, it is a potential positive in regards to finances at the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest signed Mangala from VfB Stuttgart back in July 2022 in a £12.7m deal.

Therefore, if the Reds can indeed secure £30m from Lyon for the 26-year-old’s signature this summer, it would represent a very healthy profit, £17.3m to be exact.

After a difficult season on the financial front, which even saw Nottingham Forest have four points deducted, that profit could even help Nuno Espirito Santo bring a new face or two to the City Ground this summer.
