27-year-old Everton star, negotiation ongoing

Newcastle United are confident of securing a deal for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, according to a report from The Telegraph.

The newspaper reported online on 22 June that the Toffees striker could leave Goodison Park this summer, with the Magpies now “close” to securing a deal for one of their top targets.

The Everton striker has only a year left on his present deal, and it seems they are willing to let him go. Negotiations are ongoing over the transfer fee at the moment.

The Toffees have offered him a contract extension, but Calvert-Lewin prefers a move to Tyneside.

While talks are progressing, Newcastle are confident that a deal can be struck. However, they need to sell someone before they can buy. In the past few weeks, they have been pushing hard to sign the striker.

Should Everton sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin?

The England striker has struggled with fitness issues in recent years. Last season, he played 38 games for Everton, scoring eight goals. Newcastle feel that if he stays injury-free, the striker is capable of producing better returns.

Everton also need to offload a few players to comply with the Premier League’s financial rules. They have reached an agreement to sell winger Lewis Dobbin to Aston Villa, and it appears that the Toffees could lose Calvert-Lewin as well.

If Calvert-Lewin leaves, Everton will be in a strong position to keep hold of both Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana, but Sean Dyche will need to sign another good striker ahead of the next season.

Newcastle could sell veteran striker Callum Wilson and Calvert-Lewin could replace him at St James’ Park.
