The Broncos have a month to sign star centre Selwyn Cobbo to an extension or risk losing him to an NRL rival on the open market for 2026 and beyond.
The Courier Mail reported Cobbo will be up for sale to the highest bidder come November 1, unless the Broncos can ink an extension with their Origin star in the next four weeks.
Cobbo is set to head to free agency and test his value on the open market if the Broncos can’t strike a deal with the versatile speedster.
The 22-year-old’s preference is to stay at the Broncos, but given the he can cover fullback, wing and centre, there will be no shortage of suitors lining up to make him a marquee man for 2026.
The Broncos are confident they will retain Cobbo in the same manner they locked down Payne Haas last year on the eve of the November 1 deadline.
However, the Broncos are also trying to finalise a deal with star fullback Reece Walsh and Origin centre Kotoni Staggs, so they are unlikely to be able to keep them all on big money due to salary cap issues.
The Broncos are hopeful of retaining their star centre duo, but are content to play the waiting game, even if a rival club comes to the table for the pair.
Staggs is on an estimated $700,000 this season, while Cobbo is on around $625,000, with his salary set to rise again next year.
