Nottingham Forest did some very good business during the summer transfer window, with emphasis placed on quality over quantity.
On deadline day, the club added just two new players, with James Ward-Prowse joining from West Ham and Morato signing from Benfica.
It took the total amount of new signings to 11 players for the summer and that represents a shift in strategy when it comes to recruitment.
One area of the squad that couldn’t be bolstered was at the top of the pitch, with moves for a number of strikers going south.
Another player on the agenda was Eddie Nketiah but he chose Crystal Palace after a chat with Oliver Glasner.
Omar Marmoush was a target towards the close of the transfer deadline for Forest but he chose to remain with Eintracht Frankfurt.
All is not lost though and for one player the decision to stick rather than twist could be huge.
Taiwo Awoniyi is the biggest winner from the summer transfer window
Survey the Forest supporters this summer and the percentage of people who would have cashed in on Awoniyi would have been quite high.
Despite the player having fitness and personal problems, many fans felt that he’d had his day and Forest would be wise to move on.
His season hasn’t started particularly well. On the back of very little football in pre-season, the striker has looked rusty and lacking in confidence.
He missed the last penalty in the penalty shootout defeat to Newcastle and has come off the bench in the club’s three Premier League fixtures.
With the club actively pursuing a new striker, Awoniyi must have been wondering where he would fit into the squad.
Chris Wood is in rich goalscoring form and as a result, he looks set to remain the number one striker under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Now, Awoniyi will appreciate that although he’s behind Wood in the pecking order, he will still get plenty of game time during the current campaign.
